Welcome Letter from Mrs. Ackerman and Miss Chrusciel

Dear Student,

Welcome to Fifth Grade! You are so lucky to have two teachers again all year! Miss Chrusciel will be your Reading and Social Studies teacher AND Mrs. Ackerman will be your Math and Science Teacher.  We are both so happy to have you in our classes.

We hope you have had a wonderful summer and are ready to tell us all about your
fun activities. We were busy planning your year in 5th grade by reading many great
books and attending some informative conferences together.  5th grade is going to be an amazing year and we look forward to meeting you on September 1st, if not sooner at our BBQ on Friday, August 28, 11:30-1:00.

There are so many exciting activities, programs, field trips and special 5th grade activities planned this year.  We will be starting off the year preparing for a special program called River As A Classroom.    During the all-day program, you will travel by canoe on the Nashua  River to observe and document wildlife. You will then collect water samples to identify the water quality of the river.  Throughout this hands on learning day you will  learn how humans and animals have impacted the Nashua River Watershed.  This program matches up well with the New Hampshire 5th grade science frameworks and we are looking forward to it on September 24th.

Fifth grade created a blog that includes some very cool learning links for each subject, homework will be listed and all types of information will be blogged for the year. Currently, we have attached the Supply List and  our Welcome letters.  Here is the link to the blog http://fmsackermanblog.blogspot.com/ which is also located off the school website under Grades/Departments and Grade Five. Please have your parent sign up to receive weekly updates from the blog. ALL you have to do is go to the blog and on the left side it says follow by email, put in your email and you will be added to the list! You won’t want to miss it!

This year you will have the opportunity to take part in Chorus. Chorus members meet once a week and perform in the winter and spring concert.  We hope you sign up because it is a great way to meet new friends and learn how to read music. You will also have a chance to take part in band.  Don’t miss out on these special activities.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to email us at anytime. Mr. Ackerman is at ackermant@nashua.edu and Miss Chrusciel is at chrusciele@nashua.edu. We look forward to meeting you and being your 5th grade teachers!

Sincerely,
Miss Chrusciel & Mrs. Ackerman
