News for week of March 30

From Miss Chrusciel

Language arts: In reading we are continuing with book clubs and using character development focus questions to guide discussion.  The kids are also focusing on completing their unit 2 performance tasks by Friday.
In writing, we are moving back to our opinion writing piece Should Every Kid Get a Trophy and the kids will be working to develop their thesis statement and supporting claims to write their essay.
Social Studies: The kids will be receiving their civics & government/colonial America performance task.  They will be working in small groups to develop a colony that will sustain in the New World.

From Mrs. Ackerman:

Math: Your kids are amazing! They are adding fractions with unlike denominators with strong understanding!
Here is a video of what your kids did last week and I will add a video tomorrow of them doing this abstractly now!

Students also learned about divisibility rules today. Here is a list of the rules that they can apply to any number.

We will continue to practice these rules, learn how to subtract with like and unlike denominators, and practice traditional Multiplication with 3 digits by 2 digits. Students continue to practice their 6, 7 and 8 tables in multiplication. Please practice these facts wherever you are! Here is a list

In science, students are working to understand concentration of a solution. They know now that they need to have equal volume when comparing results.
This background knowledge will eventually lead to chemistry classes they will take in high school. Here is a video of what they will use this info for in the future:
