NEWS Week of 9/28

We have had a busy week! It is still a bit warm in the classrooms, however the students are working hard.

We have asked students to work on Xtramath twice a week at home and Sumdogs if they have time.  They have written their codes in their notebooks.  We have already had one student complete a fact test in under 3 seconds a problem and I know some are close behind him. They need to practice their multiplication every night.  The students will be writing the number they are studying in their agenda books.  They may have flashcards or a practice sheet they created.  Flashcards will help with practicing their facts independently or with a family member.  Practice sheet will have facts written down the sheet. They need to beat their own time which should be written somewhere on the sheet.

Students are also working on place value. They have learned to multiply and divide by 10, 100, and 1000.  We are using charts to understand this concepts concretely but they are learning to do this step in their head.  They have made so much progress.  We will be multiplying and dividing by exponents this week and taking an assessment next week on all these skills.

We understand homework has been a bit of a challenge but students are getting support in so many areas with so many people. We need to fill some gaps and your help at home along with the support in the classroom is exactly what they need.  Let us know if you have any questions about any of the assignments.

Chorus starts tomorrow. All students will be attending chorus however Mrs. Janco has asked that students get a chorus sheet signed to participate.  Unfortunately, some students do not want to participate. I have tried to encourage that they attend because they have not had a chance to do this in school yet and I know they will enjoy this extra curricular activity.  Please sign the chorus form if you haven't yet and return to school tomorrow.

Our First Tiger Team Assembly is Friday. We will be introduced to our Character for the month of October which is Good Citizenship. Please talk to your child about being a good citizenship: being responsible, trustworthy, helping your community, doing your chores at your house...

Have a great week!
