In science students are learning about saturation. Students know that solutions are composed of a solvent (liquid) and a
solute (solid) that is dissolved in the solvent. They will have a quiz next week on Investigation 1 and 2. They are also working with the periodic table. Here is a link to an interactive periodic table!
Below is a video explaining the saturation points of salt and sugar. Please discuss with your child saturation of salt, citric acid and by next week they will have a mystery solute. What will it be?
In language arts this week the kids will be reading a story called The Marble Champ. Our school theme for the week is "never give up" and we will be tying this theme into our reading as well. The kids will also be learning how to play marbles to go along with the story and the fifth grade will be having a marble tournament later on in the week!
As always, the kids will be responsible for at least one reading response to coincide with their continuous reading as well complete their grammar work and Words their Way phonics work for the week during independent practice.In writing, the kids will be working on their performance task of writing a friendly letter.
In social studies we will be reviewing the Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights in our civics unit. The kids will be receiving a study guide on all three topics in class, and be able to work in groups to answer these questions. They will have a quiz on all three topics at the beginning of next week. They are encouraged to review these questions each night in order to prepare for the quizzes.
