Week of February 10th

In math this week, students will be introduced to square numbers using the cuisenaire rods.   Below is a video that shows the concepts we will be teaching in class. Please practice square numbers at home with your child! They should be bringing home a sheet with the multiplication problems on it. Time them as they recite and encourage your child to beat their time.

We will also continue practicing with division with decimal. We will end the week with a Valentine Activity that will introduce Volume.

Students completed their first Performance Task in physical science last week. They were given a mixture of salt, powder and gravel and needed to work together to find a way to separate the mixture into three separate cups. I will post pictures tomorrow, but they did awesome! This week the students will review their written work from the lab and then independently explain mixture and solution as a quiz grade.  Here is a link to information about this if you would like to review with your child Matter and Solution
